
Mountain Skills – The Essentials
WHAT IS THE EVENT ABOUT?
This course is a practical on the hill course. We aim to improve your all round mountain craft ensuring that you have the fundamental skills to keep yourself safe in the mountains of the UK. Over the course of 2-days we will aim to cover the following:
- Weather forecasts, where to find the information and what it means for a mountain journey
- Clothing systems and footwear considerations
- Equipment considerations
- Movement skills for different types of terrain
- Navigation skills, tips and strategies
- Night Navigation/Low visibility skills, tips and strategies
- Wild camping and Expeditions skills
- Emergency procedures
- Leave No Trace
WHAT IS INCLUDED:
- Qualified Mountain Leader
- Use of maps and compass
- Maximum group size of 1:5
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
- Waterproofs – Jacket and Trousers
- Clothing suitable for a full day in the hills
- Walking Boots
- Spare warmth layer (jacket/fleece)
- Hat and gloves
- Water bottle (minimum 1.5 litre)
- Food and snacks (for 2 days)
- Wild camping equipment
