
Fairfield Horseshoe
A fascinating circular walk from Ambleside taking in all of the high Fells that make up the skyline around Rydal Beck. The Fairfield Horseshoe is a true Lake District classic and high on the list of every serious hillwalker. The route offers exceptional mountain views and easy walking along broad grassy ridges and summit plateau.
For those who are looking to tick off the famous Wainwright’s this route will provide 8 in one long stunning mountain day.
Is it for me?
At approximately 16km and over 900m of ascent this route requires a good level of fitness. The walking is generally along well defined mountain paths though you should still expect it to take 8 hours+. There are no technical aspects to this route but good hill fitness is required.

What do you need to bring?
- Walking boots
- Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
- Suitable clothing for hillwalking (Base-layer, Mid-layer and Warmth Layer)
- Spare warmth layer
- Hat & gloves
- Lunch and snacks
- Drink (minimum 1.5L)
- Head torch and spare batteries
